Wellington Railway Station

Wellington’s lovely Railway Station was completed in 1937, but in the manner of things in New Zealand it feels like the project had been running a while before then, picking up ideas as it went along. In this case that means most of the grandeur feels more 1920s than 1930s – though there are a few touches of Art Deco in some of the detailing.

It’s definitely one of those great public spaces that lifts your spirit and makes you feel you’re important just by being there. Here’s the main entry hall:
