Craters of the Moon

‘Craters of the Moon’ is a grand name for a big volcanic field up near Taupo. In truth, once you’ve seen one cloud of smelly steam coming out of the ground you’ve seen ’em all – but the effects here are quite spectacular, including the usual steam, mudpools, hot rocks and the smell of Hydrogen Sulphide.

After a while out there you start to wonder where the rest of the world’s gone, and how much more of this there is. Faced with the option of an diversion up yet another hill, you think ‘Nah. Let’s get back for a cup of tea…’
