Katherine Mansfield came from a respectable Wellington family, but she found it all a bit boring – so she ran off to Europe for adventures, novel-writing and unconventional relationships with, among others, DH Lawrence and Virginia Woolf.
She became a significant novelist and often wrote fondly of New Zealand. Wellington has returned the favour with a lovely preservation of her childhood home.
Bear in mind anything old is New Zealand is a ‘wow’… and this little house certainly is a ‘wow’.
