Trips to Westland are often blighted by rain, but the bad weather can lead to some stunning rainbows and cloud effects.
Photos here were taken around the Gates of Haast, the name for the valley and waterfalls leading down to the West Coast and the tiny town of Haast.
Once at Haast there’s nothing but a petrol station and a few huts… and a gorgeous sunset beach, and some very friendly ponies.
