The Moeraki Boulders are huge boulders which pop out of the surrounding mudstone as it erodes, and then slide down the beach to the sea. Their unique feature, though, is that they’re very often almost spherical, and show signs of having been very hot rock which has vitrified then cracked, making them look a bit like tortoise-shells. They’re very popular with stupid tourists who climb on them and occasionally even carve their names into them.
