Christchurch Teece Museum

The Teece Museum is part of the University of Canterbury, a very impressive museum that deserves more recognition and publicity. My interest in it here is only in a small part which is never on public display but is being lovingly curated by the University’s maths department; known as the Derrick Beach collection, it’s a rather superb set of polyhedron models. It is of course very like my own collection, on display at Colinsmaths. Working from the 1960s onwards he had less access to modern computer technology than I’ve had, but his models are beautifully designed; sadly they had deteriorated a bit in storage and despite the university restoring just a few of them there are many more in storage: the photo at the end shows there are some of the most difficult megastar models in the collection. I’ve hinted I might be available, though actually paper restoration is a very specialist activity…
