Hamilton is an important city in the North Island. Does that make it interesting and exciting, or just as dull as everywhere else? A former mayor referred to Hamilton as ‘The Tron’, which now is only said ironically. And I had my worst night ever in the Hamilton Day’s Inn. But on the whole I think the story is good: Hamilton has a great university, a mighty rugby tradition and a lot of history to celebrate. It has the superb Hamilton Gardens, and it has a real Cathedral – with 8 bells, and some very nice ringers!
