What kind of houses do Kiwis live in? Very very few are brick, in the style of British 1930s houses: these don’t stand up well to earthquakes. Some modern ones are architect-inspired mixes of concrete, glass and steel. But most, including most new ones, are built out of wood. Little old wooden houses, drafty and cold in the winter, are still the way most Kiwis live. And they really go to town with the decorative touches, verandahs and porches.
